## RYA course for beginners and those looking to become active crew members The **RYA Competent Crew** is a fun course for beginners and those who want to become active crew members rather than just passengers. Almost the entire course is hands-on. We spend 5 days on board. During that time we'll explore ports and anchorages and you'll experience life on a yacht. You will be the crew. Without you the sails won't set, and the boat won't leave the dock or be steered. ## What the Competent Crew course includes - Basic knowledge of the sea and the vessel - Instructors with a high level of experience - 40 hours of on-board lessons - Official RYA Competent Crew certificate ## What you'll learn If you don't have extensive knowledge of sailing yet, this is your course. You'll learn in English everything you need to start sailing. ### Basic knowledge Maritime terms and parts of a boat, handling sails, ropes, precautions and firefighting, personal safety equipment, man-overboard procedures, emergency equipment, meteorology, etiquette, customs, and rules of navigation. We'll even discuss how to overcome seasickness. ### Anchoring skills A significant portion of the course involves learning how to be part of a team — docking in a port, setting sail, anchoring in a bay for lunch, and many more skills. There's always time for swimming and relaxing on board. ### Handling a vessel After completing this course you'll be able to steer a yacht, handle sails, row a dinghy, and assist in all the daily routines and duties on the yacht. You'll become a valuable member of the crew. ## Prices for the Competent Crew course **€800** — taught in English, max. 5 students per course, 5 days of practical training, qualified RYA instructors. The course price does **not include** flights, meals ashore, the RYA Essential Navigation online course, or the RYA Day Skipper Theory / online theory classroom. It is highly recommended to complete the RYA Essential Navigation course before the start of this course.
